On September 20, the Institute of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology of our university published the title Recent Progress of Nanostructured Transition Metal Nitrides for Advanced Electrochemical Energy Storage in Journal of Materials Chemistry A (Journal of Materials Chemistry A). A review of the research progress in energy storage applications) was selected as a cover article.

Professor Huo Kaifu of the Institute of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology is the correspondent author, and the State Key Laboratory of Refractory and Metallurgy is the first unit.

Journal of Material Chemistry A is an international academic journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry. It is an international top journal of Engineering technology. The impact factor in 2018 is 9.931. It has a very high academic influence in chemistry, energy, materials and related fields.

The electrochemical energy storage devices such as batteries and capacitors are very important for the development of electric vehicles, mobile electronic products, smart grid and artificial intelligence. Designing high performance electrode materials is the key scientific issue for developing electrochemical energy storage devices. Transition metal nitrides have attracted much attention in the field of electrochemical energy storage due to their high conductivity, high density, large pseudocapacitance and excellent electrocatalytic activity. In recent years, the Academy of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology has carried out in-depth research on the design, electrochemical performance regulation and energy storage devices of high performance transition metal nitride electrode materials. In Adv. Mater. (IF = 21.950), Nano Energy (IF = 13.120), J. Mater. Chem. A (IF = 9.931), Nanoscale (IF = 7. 233), more than 20 articles on SCI area have been published in academic journals such as Chem. Commun. (IF=6.290).

This review mainly summarizes and reviews the latest developments of transition metal nitrides in electrochemical energy storage devices such as high performance supercapacitors, lithium sulfur batteries, lithium ion batteries and lithium ion hybrid capacitors, with emphasis on the design strategies of transition metal nitrides electrode materials, problems and future prospects in this field. The development direction is summarized and prospected.

Reviewers gave a high evaluation, saying that the review systematically summarized the research progress of transition metal nitride electrode materials, summarized in a timely manner, is very important, is conducive to a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the relevant research progress and future development direction of scholars in this field.
